English Stirrups for Equestrian Competition
We were on our way to another horse show, and I was really tired. It had been a necessary but gruelling three weeks of various competitions. The goal was to qualify for regional try-outs by accumulating enough meet points. At the new venue I proceeded to saddle my dear old mount, Clovis, when I realized, to my dismay, that one of my English Stirrups was not releasing properly. A strap had given way and the stirrup was not safe in that condition. Another rider agreed to let me borrow his saddle for my round. When I won both the round and the meet, I begged to buy that saddle as a good-luck charm. My new friend declined. He said he needed luck even more than I did.
