Kindle DX Gets Publicity From A Surprising Source

It was a little surprising to see the huge amount of publicity that the Kindle DX attracted from the world of academic publishing. It’s normally perceived as a somewhat conservative - possibly staid - environment. Maybe it’s only to be expected, after all, many educational institutions are strapped for cash and they are always looking for new ways to economise. Educational textbooks are big business - and they are very expensive. There are other benefits apart from the financial ones of course - ease of updating and issuing new revisions is an important bonus, as is the more environmentally friendly aspect of e-books. No paper means no trees felled, no chemicals or inks used and no delivery by truck. I t all adds up.
